Bahdanovich: NOC's photo exhibition displays Belarusian athletes' successes

MINSK, 19 May (BelTA) – The photo exhibition “National Olympic Committee of Belarus: 30 Years. The Stories of our Victories!” is a great opportunity to tell the story of the successes of the Belarusian athletes at the Olympic Games. It will be especially educational for the younger generation, Aliaksandr Bahdanovich, the 2008 Olympic Games champion, Chairman of the Belarus NOC's Athletes Commission, head of the Belarusian Students Sport Association, said at the opening of the exhibition on 19 May, BelTA has learned.

“It is a very good project. The exposition is beautifully designed and contains a lot of information. We need to tell, especially our youth, about the achievements of the Belarusians in elite sports, about those who have been winning Olympic medals, glorifying the country on the international arena for the past 30 years. There is a lot of work behind these achievements, and it is important to remember and be proud of it,” said Aliaksandr Bahdanovich.

Speaking about his work as the head of the NOC Athletes Commission, the outstanding canoeist said that one of the main tasks of the commission is to popularize the Olympic movement in the country. “We need to involve young people in the Olympic movement by our example. Young people should know about the lessons we learned on the way to the medals, how hard it was for us, so that they never stopped half way to their goal,” he said.

The photo exhibition “National Olympic Committee of Belarus: 30 years. The stories of our victories!” has opened on the ground floor of the Galleria Minsk shopping mall and in Victory Park of Minsk.

The exhibition was prepared by the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Belarus and BelTA News Agency. The exhibition features photos of champions and medalists of the Olympic Games that independent Belarus took part in.

The pictures capture the momentous events of Belarus' Olympic history: independent Belarus' first Olympics in Lillehammer, the first gold medal by Ekaterina Karsten, the golden race of Yuliya Nestsiarenka, the sensational victory of Andrei Aramnau in Beijing 2018, the victory of Max Mirnyi and Victoria Azarenka in London 2012, the triumph of Daria Domracheva in Sochi 2014 and the biathlon quartet in Pyeongchang 2018, golden jumps of aerial skiers and golden heats of canoeists.

The exhibition is a fascinating journey into the glorious past and present of Belarusian sports. It offers brief information about the Olympic heritage of our country and the sports where Belarusian athletes won medals in 1992-2018.

The exposition will be complemented by photos from the European Games 2015 and 2019, the European Youth Olympic Festivals and the Youth Olympic Games.
