Azarenka makes Ostrava Open quarterfinal

MINSK, 22 October (BelTA) – Belarus' world number 14 Victoria Azarenka reached the J&T Banka Ostrava Open quarterfinal, seeing off world number 85 Barbora Krejcikova of the Czech Republic 2-6, 6-2, 6-1, BelTA has learned.

The match lasted for two hours and 15 minutes. Earlier, in the women's doubles opener Victoria Azarenka and Czech's Karolina Muchova lost to the Latvian-Russian tandem of Jelena Ostapenko and Vera Zvonareva, who will face Belarus' Aryna Sabalenka and and Belgium's Elise Mertens in the quarterfinal. In the first round the Belarusian-Belgian duo solved the Slovakian-Czech duet of Chantal Skamlova and Jesika Maleckova 5-7, 6-1, 10-5.

In the women's singles round of Last 16 Belarus' world number 12 Aryna Sabalenka will face U.S. world number 55 Coco Gauff.

In the men's singles event in Cologne Belarus' world number 87 Egor Gerasimov will face Canada's world number 22 Felix Auger Aliassime for a spot in the quarterfinal. Earlier, the Belarusian cruised part Germany's world number 124 Daniel Altmaier 6-1, 6-0.

At the Challenger tournament in Istanbul Belarus' world number 129 Ilya Ivashka will play Turkey's world number 215 Cem Ilkel in Last 16. In the doubles opener Ilya Ivashka and Portugal's Frederico Ferreira Silva lost to the New Zealand-Sweden tandem of Artem Sitak and Andre Goransson in two straight sets 3-6, 3-6.
