NUCLEAR POWER IN BELARUS AND WORLDWIDE
MINSK, 4 September (BelTA) – Belarus' world number 27 Victoria Azarenka has slammed her compatriot Aryna Sabalenka 6-1, 6-3 to progress to the US Open third round in New York, BelTA has learned.
The former No. 1 converted all her break points in a 67-minute thrashing avenging a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 loss to the 11th-ranked Sabalenka in the US Open first round in August.
In the third round Victoria Azarenka will play against either American Sachia Vickery (world No. 160) or Poland's Iga Swiatek (world No. 53).
Earlier Victoria Azarenka cruised past Austria's number 139 Barbara Haas 6-1, 6-2 in the opener, while Aryna Sabalenka sealed a 7-6 (7-1), 6-4 victory over France's Oceane Dodin, ranked world No. 115.
World number 130 Olga Govortsova lost to U.S. Sloane Stephens, ranked world No.39 in the second-round match. Earlier she cruised past world number 194 Asia Muhammad of the United States 6-1, 6-2.
