MINSK, 20 February (BelTA) – Athletes from 30 countries will compete for medals of the International A-Tournament – Belarus Open Sambo Championship for the prizes of the President of Belarus, BelTA learned from the organizers of the competitions.
Taking part in the competitions will be about 300 athletes. Belarus will field 25 athletes in nine men's weight categories and seven women's weight categories. Among them will be champion of the 1st European Games Stepan Popov, many-time world and European champions Andrei Kazusenok and Yuri Rybak.
The competitions will kick off on 22 February. The tournament will be over on 23 February.
The first championship was held in 1997. Taking part in the competitions at different times were outstanding sambists, including Nikolai Tsypandin, Natik Bagirov, Veronika Kozlovskaya and ten-time world champion Tatyana Moskvina, Yuri Rybak, Dmitry Bazylev, Andrei Kazusenok, magomed Abdulganilov, and Yuri Senazhatsky.
The competitions are organized by the International SAMBO Federation (FIAS), the Sport and Tourism Ministry, the President's Sport Club, the Minsk City Hall, the National Olympic Committee, the Belarusian Sambo Federation.
The International A-Tournament – Belarus Open Sambo Championship for the prizes of the President of Belarus will be a rehearsal ahead of the 2nd European Games. Sambo makes it into the program of the games. In June 2019 a total of 144 athletes will compete in 18 medal events at the Minsk Palace of Sports.More about Sport
