Aryna Sabalenka into Shenzhen Open quarterfinals

MINSK, 2 January (BelTA) – Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka (No.13) has advanced to the quarterfinals of Shenzhen Open in China, BelTA has learned.

On 2 January, Aryna Sabalenka overcame Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova (No.73) in the 1/8 finals in two sets 6-3, 6-3. The match lasted one hour and 14 minutes. In the quarterfinals, Aryna Sabalenka will play against another Russian, Maria Sharapova (No.29). The two played in October 2017 in the Tianjin Open final, with Maria Sharapova, a more experienced player, prevailing.

In the doubles quarterfinals, Belarusian-Japanese duo Lidziya Marozava and Shuko Aoyama lost to Ukrainian-Japanese team of Anhelina Kalinina and Nao Hibino 2-6, 7-6, 4-10.

Another Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich (No.30) will take on Ukraine's Elina Svitolina (No.4) to book a spot in the quarterfinals of the Brisbane International.

At the Maharashtra Open in India, Belarus' Ilya Ivashka (No.91) will meet France's Gilles Simon (No.30).
