MINSK, 9 March (BelTA) - The All-Around World Cup in Artistic Gymnastics, which was due to be held in Tokyo in May, has been canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic, BelTA learned from the official website of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG).
“It was originally planned that the tournament in Tokyo would end the All-Around World Cup series, but the cancellation of the competitions in Stuttgart (Germany) and Birmingham (the UK) led to the cancellation of the qualification series. For this reason, it was decided to cancel the World Cup in Japan, especially given the current travel restrictions and difficulties around the world, as well as the measures taken by the Japanese authorities to combat COVID-19 in the run-up to the Olympics,” the organization said.
The All-Around World Cup was planned to take place on 4 May. The tournament was to be a test event for the Olympics this summer.
