MINSK, 23 March (BelTA) - The International Olympic Committee (IOC) stated that the decision on the 2020 Olympics amid the coronavirus pandemic will be taken within the next month, BelTA learned from Reuters.

“The IOC in cooperation with the 2020 Tokyo Games organizing committee, the authorities of Japan and Tokyo are currently discussing various options for the 2020 Olympics amid the spread of the coronavirus infection, including its possible postponement. We need to finalize these discussions within the next four weeks,” the committee said.

The games can take place as scheduled, as the coronavirus situation in Japan is improving. On the other hand, there is a dramatic increase in cases and new outbreaks of COVID-19 in different countries on different continents.

As was reported, with the Tokyo Olympics cancellation this summer, Japan will lose $74.2 billion. At the same time, Japanese Olympics Minister Seiko Hashimoto allowed the possibility of postponing the Games. The IOC, in turn, announced its intention to hold the Tokyo Olympics as scheduled. It is planned that the 32nd Summer Olympic Games will take place from 24 July to 9 August.
