About 2,500 Belarusian athletes sign address to public

MINSK, 30 November (BelTA) – About 2,500 athletes have joined the open address to the public launched by famous Belarusian athletes, champions and medalists of the Olympic Games, world, European and national championships, Belarus' Deputy Minister of Sports and Tourism Aleksandr Baraulya told the STV TV channel, BelTA informs.

“According to our information, about 2,500 athletes have signed this address. Athletes are preparing for the Olympics. We all hope that it will take place in Tokyo next year. All thoughts are about it. Four years of work should not be wasted. Therefore, calls to ban athletes from the competitions are wrong. People are working, people are determined to participate. Work and efforts should not go for nothing. I think everything will be fine. We will get ready and perform successfully,” Aleksandr Baraulya said.

As previously reported, two-time European Games champion in wrestling Vasilisa Marzalyuk put forward an initiative to address the International Olympic Committee on behalf of the Belarusian athletes at a meeting of the National Olympic Committee of Belarus on 17 November. The address was upheld by famous Belarusian athletes, champions and medalists of the Olympic Games. Representatives of national teams in various sports continue joining the address.
