2022/23 FIH Hockey World Cups qualification process reviewed

MINSK, 3 June (BelTA) - The FIH Executive Board, after consultation with the Continental Federations and the FIH Athletes Committee, has reviewed the qualification process for the 2022/23 FIH Hockey World Cups, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Hockey Federation.

The decision followed the postponement of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 to next year, and therefore the rescheduling of the hockey Continental Championships. If earlier only the winners of the continental championships received quotas for the second most important competitions after the Olympics, this time the quotas were revised upwards. The majority will be filled based on the final rankings at the relevant 2021 Continental Championships. Another five quotas will find their owners based on the results of the qualification events, the format of which will be confirmed at a later stage.

The 2022 FIH Hockey Women's World Cup will feature four European teams, including hosts The Netherlands and Spain, two teams from Asia, Oceania, South and North America, and one from Africa.

The 2023 FIH Hockey Men's World Cup will feature four European teams, three Asian teams, including host India, two teams from Oceania, one team from Africa and the North and South America.
