2021 World Athletics Championships postponed to 2022

MINSK, 30 March (BelTA) – The World Athletics authorities have officially confirmed the postponement of the 2021 World Athletics Championships to 2022, BelTA learned from the official website of World Athletics.

The federation thus responded to the news on the Tokyo Olympics postponement to July-August 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“We support the new 2021 dates for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games announced today by the Japanese organizers and the IOC. This gives our athletes the time they need to get back into training and competition. Everyone needs to be flexible and compromise and to that end we are now working with the organizers of the World Athletics Championships in Oregon on new dates in 2022 for our World Athletics Championships,” the World Athletics statement reads.

Belarus won no medals at the 2019 World Athletics Championships in Doha. Maksim Nedasekau showed the best result for Belarus, placing fourth in High Jump. Volha Mazuronak finished fifth in Marathon. Nastassia Mironchyk-Ivanova placed fifth in Long Jump.

The 2021 World Athletics Championships was scheduled to be held on 6-15 August 2021 in Eugene, Oregon, United States.

On 30 March, the International Olympic Committee announced that the postponed 2020 Tokyo Olympics will take place from 23 July to 8 August 2021.
