MINSK, 30 December (BelTA) – On 29 December the Youth Council (Parliament) at the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus passed a statement in connection with the unlawful interference of the Council of the European Union in the internal affairs of the Republic of Belarus. The statement was taken in response to the Youth Action Plan in EU External Action that was adopted on 28 November to strengthen engagement with young people, BelTA learned from the Youth Council.
“Representing the youth of Belarus, we, members of the Youth Council (Parliament) under the National Assembly of Belarus, voice our strong disagreement with the assessments by the European Union of the state of civil society in Belarus that were laid out in the findings of the Council of the European Union's Youth Action Plan in EU External Action. We strongly oppose the interference of the European Union in the internal affairs of the sovereign Republic of Belarus that manifests itself in open support and financing of opponents of the legitimate government among young people as they create a false image of the situation in Belarus on international platforms,” the statement reads.
“We, young citizens of the Republic of Belarus, remain committed to the effective state policy that has created an enabling environment for young people to fulfill their potential in various areas of life. We strongly urge the European Union to drop the irresponsible anti-Belarusian policy that was formalized in the Youth Action Plan in EU External Action, and embark on a constructive dialogue and cooperation with the Republic of Belarus and its youth,” the statement reads.
