Young musicians to participate in international contest in Gomel

GOMEL, 18 February (BelTA) – The third international contest of bayan and accordion players will be held in Sokolov Gomel State Arts College on 19-20 February, BelTA learned from the organizing committee.

The contest will have two categories - bayan and accordion. A total of 127 young participants from Belarus, Ukraine and Lithuania will compete in three age groups: up to 10 inclusively, 11-12 and 13-16 years old. The jury will be chaired by Nikolai Sevrukov, Belarus' honored artist, the chairman of the Belarusian association of bayan and accordion players.

The master classes with renowned musicians and composers will be held during the contest.

The organizers of the event are the Belarusian Culture Ministry, the main department of ideology, culture and young affairs of the Gomel Executive Committee, the Belarusian association of bayan and accordion players and Sokolov Gomel State Arts College.

The contest is held every two years. The competition aims to popularize musical arts and artistic performance, to discover and support talented gifted children and talented young people, to develop their skills, to promote the best teaching experience in culture and strengthen international ties.

The regional contest of bayan and accordion players was first held in March 2000. In 2016 it became an international event. A total of 1,500 young musicians from Belarus, Ukraine, Russia, Poland, Latvia and Lithuania have taken part in the contest. “Thanks to it, a lot of talented youth have become fellows of the special fund of the Belarus president for the support of the talented youth,” the organizers added.
