Young Belarusians, Russians encouraged to promote Union State ideas

MINSK, 8 July (BelTA) – Young people of Belarus and Russia should promote ideas of the Union State of Belarus and Russia. The opinion was ventured by Lyudmila Makarina-Kibak, Chairwoman of the Healthcare, Physical Training, Family and Youth Policy Commission of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, member of the Social and Youth Policy, Science, Culture, and Humanitarian Affairs Commission of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia, in BelTA's press center on 8 July.

The MP noted: “Promoting the Union State of Belarus and Russia is one of the main tasks of the Youth Chamber under the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia. It seems to me it is absolutely correct that they've started with studying the legislation. It is very important because it is time to introduce some amendments to national laws and maybe pass some regulatory acts on top of that. Certainly, military and patriotic upbringing is another task, too. They already use their own resources to restore monuments, reduce things to order. Our experience and their youthful thinking have borne fruit. It seems to me that within one year of the work of the Youth Chamber we've very actively presented what young people of the Union State are. We've said it in a way to reach the back of beyond and every young person.”

Chairman of the Youth Chamber of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia Aleksandr Lukyanov stressed that the chamber works closely with major public associations and organizations such as the BRSM and Belaya Rus. “We walk in lockstep with them. The consolidation of all major associations for the sake of building a clear-cut integration vector is very important. This is why the Youth Chamber was established. It now unites the best representatives of major associations, working young people, who pass all these ideas on to their fellow workers. It is in this manner that we all strive to move towards one important goal – the development of our youth and integration processes.”

The Youth Chamber suggested informing passengers travelling by air and by rail about the 20th anniversary of the foundation of the Union State of Belarus and Russia. The proposal was forwarded to the Belarusian Transport and Communications Ministry and the Russian Transport Ministry. The proposal met support.

According to Aleksandr Lukyanov, analytical work demonstrates that the level of awareness of young people about the Union State of Belarus and Russia is insufficiently high. “A number of initiatives have been put forward in order to shape the information culture of young people, systematize sources of distribution of reliable information about the Union State. For instance, an educational event ‘The role of youth in the global digital agenda of the Union State' was organized last year together with [the Russian Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States Affairs, Compatriots Living Abroad, and International Humanitarian Cooperation] Rossotrudnichestvo. The idea to develop a digital youth platform of the Union State was born as a result of discussions,” Aleksandr Lukyanov remarked. This platform could become a new information environment to form and unite information about education, leisure, vacancies, and other topical matters young Belarusians and Russians are interested in. The Youth Chamber has sent letters to the relevant ministries to get things started.
