Wreath ceremony at Tomb of Unknown Soldier in Moscow marks Belarus' liberation anniversary

MOSCOW, 27 June (BelTA) - A wreath was placed at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier near the Kremlin Wall in Moscow on behalf of the Belarusian Embassy on 27 June on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of Belarus' liberation from Nazi invaders and Belarus' Independence Day, BelTA has learned.

Vladimir Semashko

Taking part in the ceremony were Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Russia Vladimir Semashko, State Secretary of the Belarus-Russia Union State Grigory Rapota, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council of the Russian Federal Assembly Yury Vorobyov, Executive Secretary of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Belarus-Russia Union State Sergei Strelchenko, diplomats, representatives of integration organizations and the Belarusian diaspora. Participants of the ceremony also laid flowers at the memorial plates Minsk Hero City and Brest Hero Fortress in the Alexander Garden.

The Special Military Exemplary Band of the Honor Guard of the Russian Armed Forces played the national anthem of Belarus. The ceremony rounded off with a march-past of the Honor Guard Company of the Preobrazhensky Regiment.

Belarus Ambassador Vladimir Semashko noted that Belarus timed its Independence Day not to the collapse of the USSR, but to the day when the country was liberated from Nazi invaders, which showed the true strength of the Belarusian nation.
