Werner Aspenstrom's poetry translated from Swedish to Belarusian

MINSK, 13 November (BelTA) – A collection of works by Swedish poet Werner Aspenstrom will be presented in Minsk at the State Museum of the History of Belarusian Literature on 13 November, BelTA learned from the museum.

The poetry collection Litany was translated into the Belarusian language by Alesya Basharimova.

Werner Aspenstrom is one of the outstanding Swedish poets of the 20th century. His works are placed alongside works of Nobel Prize laureates in literature Tomas Transtromer and Harry Martinson. Werner Aspenstrom was a member of the Swedish Academy, a holder of many prizes and awards. An award named after him was instituted in Sweden in 1999.

Werner Aspenstrom's works show many facets of life. The author is known for unexpected and accurate images and his ability to arouse deep reflective thought. His admiration of nature and landscapes of his childhood are among the most common themes of his poetry.

Alesya Basharimova had also translated works of other Swedish poets and novelists, including Edith Sodergran, Tomas Transtromer, Tove Jansson and a number of Swedish folk fairy tales.
