War veteran: Belarus' main achievement is peace and independence

MINSK, 22 June (BelTA) - The main achievement of Belarus is peace and independence, Chairman of the Brest regional branch of the Belarusian Association of Veterans Valery Gubarenko said when speaking at the 5th Belarusian People's Congress.

“We are lucky to live in the country whose main achievements are peace and independence. Our sons are not sent back in zinc coffins from hotspots from around the planet. However, we see that the situation is different in many parts of the world. A number of states are involved in military action. War veterans of Brest Oblast, like all citizens of Belarus, are concerned about the worsening geopolitical situation. But we have no doubt that our country has everything we need to secure stability and safety,” Valery Gubarenko noted.

Noting that today marks the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, Valery Gubarenko stressed: “Our Belarusian People's Congress demonstrates the creative force and unity of Belarusians who persevered in the war and who built their own independent state. We will always remember how much pain and sorrow the war brought. At the dawn today a great number of people, including visitors from abroad, came to commemorate the feat of the legendary defenders of the Brest Fortress

“Together with the youth, we will continue to fight against the attempts to falsify the history of the Great Patriotic War. We will record the memories of the participants and all those who forged the Victory. We will replenish the museums with new documents and facts for the patriotic education of young people. The memories of living witnesses are the most compelling argument in this fight,” the war veteran said.
