MINSK, 18 May (BelTA) – Political and economic sanctions, cyber threats have given rise to many new challenges and threats, State Secretary of Belarus' Security Council Aleksandr Volfovich told reporters before a meeting of the CSTO PA Council in Minsk, BelTA has learned.
"This has affected not only the Collective Security Treaty Organization, but also the entire global security process," Aleksandr Volfovich said when asked how NATO expansion and the conflict in Ukraine affected the organization.
"Todays' event is very timely. We see the extreme aggravation of the military and political situation, the hybrid wars of various scales in different parts of the world. Various sanctions (political, economic), cyber threats have given rise to a lot of new challenges and threats in security. Not only for the Collective Security Treaty Organization, but for the world as a whole," Aleksandr Volfovich said.
Quoting the Belarusian leader, Aleksandr Volfovich noted that the most precious thing that people need is peace and security. Such platforms are important for discussing these problems, developing mechanisms, and finding ways to resolve crises.
Belarus is holding the presidency in the Collective Security Treaty Organization in difficult conditions. One of the areas of work during the presidency is the settlement of crises, primarily within the CSTO. This is the conflict on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, some contradictions on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, etc. "We need to sort things out at home and, in general, to raise the prestige of the Collective Security Treaty Organization," he stressed.
"I would like other organizations, such as the OSCE, the UN, the EAEU, and other to work more effectively. These organizations must counteract these threats, develop mechanisms. So it is very important to meet, discuss things, develop ways, and get first-hand information on the situation that has developed in certain regions and areas," he noted.
