UNWTO head to visit Belarus in June

MINSK, 14 January (BelTA) – Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Zurab Pololikashvili met with Pavel Latushko, Belarus' Ambassador to France and concurrently to Spain, permanent representative to the UNWTO, on 12 January, BelTA has learned from the website of the Embassy of Belarus in Spain.

During the meeting Zurab Pololikashvili noted that he intends to visit Belarus in late June to attend the European Games and to discuss the issues related to the use of international sports events to promote tourism.

Zurab Pololikashvili also welcomed the changes in Belarus' visa regulations aimed at further liberalization of visa rules. In this respect Pavel Latushko noted that the number of tourists who visited Belarus in 2018 increased significantly over 2017.

The parties also discussed the areas of further cooperation between Belarus and the World Tourist Organization. In particular, the UNWTO head suggested holding an international event on agro-eco-tourism in Belarus in 2020 taking into account Belarus' experience in this area.

Pavel Latushko thanked Zurab Pololikashvili for the practical expert help of UNWTO experts in developing tourism in Belarus.

Pavel Latushko also informed the UNWTO head that Belarus will participate, for the second time in a row, in a major tourism exhibition, FITUR, due in Madrid on 23-27 January.

The officials also agreed to develop a road map of cooperation between Belarus and the world's leading tourism organization.
