Ukrainian diaspora leader praises Belarus' policy towards ethnic minorities

MINSK, 13 April (BelTA) – Belarus has created favorable conditions for a decent life and self-fulfillment of ethnic minorities, Vladislav Kadira, Chairman of the Vatra Ukrainian association, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities at the Shirokov Institute of Modern Knowledge, told BelTA.

“The great historical path jointly passed by Belarusians and Ukrainians gives grounds to believe that the unity of our nations is an established fact and it cannot be destroyed in the future. A peaceful foreign policy, national security and prosperity have always been the priorities for the Belarusian state. I would like the country to preserve these values in the future. It is especially important to retain the atmosphere of mutual understanding between different ethnic groups who live in Belarus,” Vladislav Kadira said.

According to him, favorable conditions have been created in Belarus for the life and self-fulfillment of ethnic minorities. “The Ukrainian community is trying to preserve their national identity, including the mother tongue, customs and traditions. Art groups of the Ukrainian diaspora make a great contribution to the preservation of national values and promotion of cooperation in history and culture. They take part in events to mark public holidays of the country and a number of other nationwide and local activities, thus enriching the spiritual life of the Belarusian society,” he noted.

Vladislav Kadira emphasized that the tragic events in the eastern regions of sovereign Ukraine, where people are dying, resonate with pain in the hearts of Ukrainians. “We hope that Belarus will never follow this terrible path, will successfully overcome all the trials of global crises and will remain committed to peace and stability,” he concluded.
