Two newly-bought Russian fighter jets land in Belarus

MINSK, 13 November (BelTA) – The first two fighter jets out of the four jets the Armed Forces intend to get this year have arrived in Belarus, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Defense Ministry's Telegram channel.

According to the source, the two Su-30SM fighter jets touched down at an airfield in Baranovichi. The first pair of Su-30SM fighter jets out of the planned twelve jets is now in Belarus.

The aircraft will greatly improve the combat potential of the Belarusian army. They will increase the army's capability to protect troops and installations from aerial assaults, the ability to patrol airspace, detect and destroy aerial and ground targets, take care of routine patrols. The air force and air defense command of the Belarusian army will get a powerful tool to ensure military security.

BelTA reported earlier that two more fighter jets are expected to arrive next week. The contract to buy these aircraft was signed in 2017. In line with the contract the Russian manufacturer was supposed to deliver the first wing of four Su-30SM fighter jets to Belarus in 2019. The contract was signed in order to renew the aircraft fleet. The Belarusian army intends to buy a total of 12 fighter jets.
