Team of Belarusian State University into ACM-ICPC World Finals

MINSK, 5 April (BelTA) – A team of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science of Belarusian State University (BSU) will take part in the World Finals of the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC), BelTA learned from the BSU press service.

The team includes second-year student Aleksei Filinovich and four-years students Yefim Klimashevsky and Anton Palyukhovich. They qualified for the finalы after taking a bronze medal in the semifinals that were held online and wrapped up on 4 April.

All in all, the semifinals featured 48 teams from Belarus, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Georgia, Uzbekistan, and Latvia. Belarus was represented by three teams of the BSU and one team of the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics. The BSU teams have already won two second-degree diplomas.

Teams of three were given five hours to solve eleven programming problems in the English language, working on one computer. Their solutions were checked by an automated testing system. The winner was the team that correctly solves most problems.

The ICPC World Finals will be held in the autumn of 2021. The organizers will decide on the format of the event soon.

The International Collegiate Programming Contest is the largest international competition among young programmers. It has been held since 1977 by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). The contest consists of three stages: quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals.

Belarus has participated in the contest since 1995. The BSU took a gold medal (2004 World Finals in Czechia), a bronze medal (2008 World Finals in Canada), and two silver medals (2012 World Finals in Poland and 2013 World Finals in Russia). The BSU always makes it into the finals.
