LOGOISK DISTRICT, 22 March (BelTA) - The entire nation must unite to oppose fascism to make sure the tragedy of Khatyn would never be repeated, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Syrian Arab Republic to the Republic of Belarus Mohammad Aloumrani told the media as he took part in the commemorative event to mark the 80th anniversary of the Khatyn tragedy on 22 March, BelTA has learned.
“This is a terrible tragedy. What happened in Khatyn and other villages is really sad. We regret the deaths of so many people and hope that such tragedies will not repeat. However, 80 years after the tragedy we can see that history is repeating itself. Unfortunately, fascism is showing up again. We believe that all people must unite to oppose fascism so that this tragedy never happens again,” the diplomat said.

Describing the relations between Belarus and Syria in general, he described them as historically friendly and strong in all areas - from economy to culture. Very good relations between the leaders of the two countries contribute to the development of cooperation. “We also have good relations at the international level, despite the fact that both countries are opposed to external sanctions and attempts to interfere in internal affairs. Unfortunately, both Syria and Belarus suffer from the actions of the same countries,” the ambassador said.
