MINSK, 31 August (BelTA) – Various judicial procedures have between switched to digital technologies in the Supreme Court of Belarus and in the oblast courts, BelTA learned from Chairman of the Supreme Court Valentin Sukalo on 31 August.

The official said: “We had to finish digitizing the justice system in the oblast courts and the Supreme Court by 1 September. It is quite a labor-intensive and complicated process, nevertheless, we've managed to accomplish that. At present 14 oblast courts and the Supreme Court will work in conditions of complete digitization.”

According to Valentin Sukalo, it will result in audio and video recordings of trials and other capabilities. “We are launching a united automated information system for general jurisdiction courts that will allow recording every situation in every district court in real time,” he noted.

Valentin Sukalo also talked about his meeting with Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko earlier that day. During the meeting the current state of the court system was discussed among other things. Valentin Sukalo stated that despite some tensions due to the higher number of administrative cases Minsk courts have to deal with the overall situation is calm and gives no reason for concern. “The head of state once again stressed that judges should stay out of politics. They cannot be members of political parties or get involved in campaigning. Everything they do has to be in strict compliance with the Constitution and the effective legislation,” Valentin Sukalo added.
