Support to CIS tourism sector amid pandemic discussed in Minsk

MINSK, 15 June (BelTA) - The CIS Executive Committee in Minsk hosted a online meeting of the working group on response to challenges in the tourism sector set up at the CIS Council on Tourism, BelTA learned from the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.

Attending the event were representatives of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Uzbekistan and the CIS Executive Committee.

The working group discussed the implementation of the CIS Strategy for Cooperation in Tourism for 2021-2030 and the CIS cooperation amid the ongoing spread of the COVID-19 infection.

The members of the meeting noted that the CIS countries have been actively implementing requirements for mandatory pre-testing or vaccination of foreign nationals arriving in the country, continue to apply additional measures to support the tourism industry, including based on long-term forecasts of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on tourism development. Taking into account the epidemiological situation, tourism forums, conferences, roundtables and other tourism-oriented events are planned online or in a mixed format.

The participants of the meeting found it expedient to organize work on regular informing the partners about the country's requirements for international travelers to undergo COVID-19 testing or vaccination, as well as to develop common approaches to these procedures and supporting documents.

They also heard out the information of the Republic of Uzbekistan on the proposals to introduce a system of hygiene standards in the CIS tourism industry and assess the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the tourism industry.

The working group will next hold a video conference in September 2021.
