'Star Expedition' designed to promote patriotic education

MINSK, 23 January (BelTA) - The campaign "Star Expedition" is a strong school of patriotic education, Belarus Education Minister Igor Karpenko said during an official meeting to launch the 53rd international Star Expedition around the places of military glory and labor excellence in Belarus organized by the Belarusian State Pedagogical University (BSPU), BelTA has learned.

Igor Karpenko said that the Star Expedition is not just BSPU's tradition. “This is a powerful school of patriotic education, a school to develop additional skills of future teachers. What is the work of a teacher? Primarily this is the communication with pupils and students, their parents and the local community. The Star Expedition will give the participants unforgettable beautiful moments of human communication. Talk to people, listen to them and hear them, adopt the experience that they try to convey to you,” the minister noted.

The official meeting was also attended by the BSPU First Vice Rector Svetlana Kopteva, representatives of the Education Department of the Minsk Oblast Executive Committee, the Education Committee of the Minsk City Hall, representatives of the embassies of foreign countries in Belarus.

“It is great that the campaign has become international. We remember very well that that Great Victory was won together. Many nationalities, many people took part in the liberation of Belarus. Such campaigns mean that our country has a great future,” Svetlana Kopteva said.

The 53rd international Star Expedition of students and teachers around the places of the Belarusian military glory and labor excellence will be held on 23-26 January. Eight teams of the total of more than 250 people will visit the Krupki, Borisov, Stolbtsy, Soligorsk districts, Zhodino (Minsk Oblast), Osipovichi District, Bobruisk (Mogilev Oblast), Oshmyany District (Grodno Oblast). The participants of the campaign will meet with veterans of the Great Patriotic War and labor veterans, provide necessary help to them, organize meetings and lay flowers at the memorials and mass graves of soldiers and civilians who died during the Great Patriotic War.

Students and teachers will visit educational institutions to hold vocational guidance talks with students, master classes in various areas of educational and extracurricular activities, and healthy lifestyle events. Taking part in the campaign will be BSPU students from Belarus, Iraq, China, Lithuania and Turkmenistan and also students from Moscow Pedagogical State University (Russia), the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia, D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan State Technical University, L.N.Gumilyov Eurasian National University (Kazakhstan), and Baku Slavic University (Azerbaijan).
