Spikes of activity during Belarusian parliament election campaign noted

MINSK, 17 November (BelTA) – The election campaign was not homogeneous. It demonstrated wavelike activity with its ebbs and flows. There were periods reminding one about black PR during the early voting part, BelTA learned from Chairwoman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Lidia Yermoshina.

There were several headline-making cases when heads of election commissions complained about pressure from observers or from so-called independent mass media. “Those were more like black PR and pressure. Those were staged actions,” Lidia Yermoshina believes. She recalled a few observations: the first early voting day was quiet while the second and third ones were ripe with scandals. “As if some director unleashed the dogs. And the next day was once again quiet and normal,” Lidia Yermoshina said.

She noted that every election campaign is different in its own way. Moreover, information technologies rule these days. The traditional format of holding an election in a heartwarming atmosphere is more and more diluted with activity on the Internet where young people prefer to find information and communicate.
