Special stamp sheet launched to mark Belarus Rescuers Day

MINSK, 18 January (BelTA) – The first-day-of-issue dedication ceremony for the Modern Rescuers stamp sheet gave a start to the events to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Belarus Emergencies Ministry, BelTA learned.

In the run-up to the celebrations, the Communications and Informatization Ministry launched the Modern Rescuers stamp sheet, a special envelope and a special dedication stamp. The postal project has been developed by the Belpochta mail service in collaboration with the Emergencies Ministry of Belarus.

The central element of the stamp sheet is the emblem of the Emergencies Ministry central office. The emblem of the ministry is depicted on the envelope.

The stamp dedication was officiated by Emergencies Minister Vladimir Vashchenko and Communications and Informatization Minister Konstantin Shulgan.

Vladimir Vashchenko noted that a medal has been designed to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the emergencies bodies and units. “Our colleagues from the Communications and Informatization Ministry agreed to help us design the stamp. It will remain in history. This is the first stamp for Rescuers Day. It fully reflects our wishes,” the minister said.

Vladimir Vashchenko presented the medal “Twenty Years of Emergencies Bodies and Units” to Communications and Informatization Minister Konstantin Shulgan.

The winners of the national professional skill competitions among rescuers were honored during the ceremony.

On 19 January 1999 a president's decree was issued to approve the establishment the Emergencies Ministry. The ministry was vested with the functions of state administration in the field of prevention and response to emergency situations, ensuring fire safety. Rescuers Day on 19 January was instituted in February 2000.
