Six labs now perform COVID-19 tests in Gomel Oblast

GOMEL, 7 May (BelTA) – The sixth lab to perform coronavirus infection tests started working in Gomel Oblast on 7 May, BelTA learned from Aleksandr Tarasenko, Gomel Oblast Chief State Medical Officer.

The lab is located in the Gomel Oblast Cancer Detection and Treatment Center. The lab is expected to carry out 50 tests per day. Gomel Oblast's six labs can perform a total of up to 1,120 tests per day.

Plans are in place to deploy three similar labs in Gomel Oblast.

Aleksandr Tarasenko pointed out that coronavirus infection tests can be done only upon the doctor's orders if the patient shows symptoms specified by the Healthcare Ministry. “There is a certain list of people: people probably infected with COVID-19, first-tier contacts, and so on. Then there are also verification tests,” he specified.
