
MINSK, 1 February (BelTA) – A true sport movement is unbreakable and undefeatable, Belarusian Prosecutor General Andrei Shved said at the opening ceremony of the international junior cross-country skiing competition Championship of the Nations, the department of media relations and editorial activities of the General Prosecutor's Office told BelTA.
Andrei Shved, as chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Belarusian Ski Federation, noted that such an event in conditions of unprecedented pressure on sports is held for the first time, “but no one can break or defeat the true sport movement”.
“Our efforts are aimed at overcoming high barriers together with the best athletes of the world, which will let us enter the world's elite sport of cross-country skiing. It is very important for us to train athletes who will carry our banner as part of the national team,” the prosecutor general said. He also expressed confidence that such events will become a good tradition and more teams and athletes will take part in them.
The opening ceremony was also attended by First Deputy Sport and Tourism Minister - Chairman of the Belarusian Ski Federation Aleksandr Dorokhovich, President of the Russian Ski Federation, three-time Olympic champion Yelena Välbe and Honored Master of Sports of Belarus Oleg Ryzhenkov.
The international junior cross country skiing competition Championship of Nations is running from 31 January to 5 February in the Raubichi National Olympic Training Center among juniors and juniors born in 2003-2004. Athletes (born 2003-2004) compete in such disciplines as sprint, mass start, individual race and mixed relay.
