Season of national culture festivals in Minsk to open in May

MINSK, 23 January (BelTA) – The season of national culture festivals in the Upper Town in Minsk will start on the last Saturday of May, Olga Antonenko, director of the Belarusian Center for National Cultures, told reporters on 22 January, BelTA has learned.

Olga Antonenko said that the festivals will be held on Saturdays and Sundays until the end of September. Latvia will be this year's newcomer.

The director of the center told about plans for 2019. She recalled the upcoming 75th anniversary of the liberation of Minsk from the Nazi invaders. According to Olga Antonenko, a large number of Belarusian diasporas in different countries have already applied to participate in events dedicated to this date. In addition, Belarusians abroad would like to visit the regions of the country, including their hometowns.

Belarusian culture will be widely represented abroad. For example, Belarusian Spring featuring national songs and dances will be held in Naples.

According to the center, representatives of 141 nationalities live in Belarus, and about 4 million Belarusians live abroad.

This year the Belarusian Center for National Cultures celebrates its 25th anniversary. Its mission is to work with national cultural public associations, public associations of Belarusians abroad.
