School in Russia named after Belarus' Great Patriotic War hero

MOSCOW, 17 May (BelTA) – School No.2 of Gvardeysk in Russia's Kaliningrad Oblast has been named after Aleksei Krutalevich, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Embassy in Russia.

Attending the event were heads of Kaliningrad Oblast government and the Ministry of Education, local government bodies, representatives of veteran and public organizations, Aleksei Krutalevich's relatives, the school administration and students. The school museum opened a stand dedicated to the Belarusian veteran.

Aleksei Krutalevich was born on 22 November 1924 in the village of Korkat, Mogilev Oblast. During the war, he was a member of Lipsky Partisan Brigade No.122 operating in Belynichi District. After Belarus' liberation in 1944, the brigade joined the regular army. He fought at the 2nd and 3rd Belarusian Fronts, took part in the battles of Koenigsberg (present-day Kaliningrad) and Tapiau (present-day Gvardeysk). After the war, he served in law enforcement agencies before retiring in the rank of lieutenant colonel. Aleksei Krutalevich is an honorary citizen of Minsk, Kaliningrad, and Gvardeysk. He passed away in 2017.
