MINSK, 31 January (BelTA) - Samarkand can become the CIS Capital of Culture in 2024, CIS Secretary General Sergei Lebedev told reporters, BelTA has learned.
According to him, this item is on the agenda of the next meeting of the CIS Ministerial Council which will be held in Tashkent on 14 April.
"The city of Samarkand has applied for the status. Judging by the opinion of the CIS member states, this decision will be approved and Samarkand will be become the CIS Capital of Culture in 2024," Sergei Lebedev noted.
The CIS secretary general recalled that St. Petersburg is the capital of culture of the Commonwealth of Independent States in 2023.
