MINSK, 25 June (BelTA) – The Belarusian army has signed a contract on upgrading T-72B tanks with the Russian company Uralvagonzavod, representatives of the Belarusian Defense Ministry told BelTA.

The Belarusian army delegation met with representatives of the Russian company Uralvagonzavod during the international defense technology forum Army 2019.

The meeting resulted in a contract, which provides for upgrading 11 T-72B tanks up to the T-72B3 level in 2019-2020. Apart from that, a contract was signed with the R&D corporation Irkut on refitting Yak-130 aircraft in order to allow the installation of the Belarusian onboard defense system Talisman. The system is designed to improve the aircraft's protection from air defense missile systems and airborne interception solutions armed with missiles.

Uralvagonzavod has upgraded a number of T-72B tanks for the Belarusian army since 2015. T-72B3 tanks with the Belarusian aiming sight Sosna U currently offer at least twice as much value for money than all the foreign competitors.

The international defense technology forum Army 2019 is taking place in Kubinka, Moscow Oblast on 25-30 June. Over 1,500 major defense industry companies, top design and engineering companies, and R&D institutions are taking part in it. The forum features over 27,000 samples of products and technologies. Belarus is represented by about 20 organizations and companies, which have brought over 250 samples of military products. Many of them are demonstrated for the first time.
