MOSCOW, 22 October (BelTA) – Social responsibility level should be brought into line with technological advancements, Belarusian Prime Minister Sergei Rumas said at the international forum Open Innovations in the Skolkovo Innovation Center in Moscow on 22 October, BelTA has learned.

“I would like to mention another challenge associated with digitalization - artificial intelligence,” Sergei Rumas said. He recalled a recent statement of Russian president Vladimir Putin who said that the country that takes the lead in the sphere of artificial intelligence will rule the world. “This is a phenomenon that has the potential to rise above human being. In this regard, we are concerned not by the technology per se. Progress is unstoppable and it is useless, stupid and absurd to try to halt it. We are concerned that the society is not ready for it from the moral and political perspectives.

Sergei Rumas asked what can happen if artificial intelligence will be used as a weapon? Can anyone say for sure that it is not happening already? What can happen if in the heat of competition between superpowers, these technologies will take on a life of their own everywhere in the world?

“Unfortunately, groundbreaking changes promised by digitalization can be a boon and a tragedy for humankind. The digital world of the 21st century can become the golden age for humanity only if the level of morals, consciousness and responsibility of elites and the society catch up with technological advancements. This responsibility lies with every person vested with big or small power in all countries,” Sergei Rumas said.
