MINSK, 17 June (BelTA) – A reconnaissance is in progress in the exercise area Gorokhovetsky in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast as part of preparations for the Belarusian-Russian tactical army exercise Union Shield 2019, representatives of the Belarusian Defense Ministry told BelTA.
According to the source, the reconnaissance is supposed to ascertain the areas where practical actions will take place and troops will be deployed during the forthcoming exercise. Deputy Chief of the General Staff, Major-General Pavel Muraveiko is in charge of the reconnaissance on behalf of the Belarusian side.
The army exercise Union Shield 2019 represents the final stage in a two-year cycle of joint combat training of Belarusian and Russian army units. In line with the decision made by the Belarusian and Russian heads of state the exercise is held every two years interchangeably in Belarus or Russia. This year's army exercise Union Shield will take place in Russia on 13-19 September.
