MINSK, 21 December (BelTA) – Sputnik V, the Russian coronavirus vaccine, is effective against the new coronavirus strain identified in some European countries, CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) Kirill Dmitriev said, TASS reports.
“Sputnik V is highly effective against the new coronavirus strain found in Europe. It is just as effective against it as against earlier strains,” Kirill Dmitriev said.
A reminder, a new coronavirus strain is behind the alarming climb of case numbers in the south of the United Kingdom. UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that the new Covid-19 variant appeared to spread more easily and might be up to 70% more transmissable than the earlier strain. In this regard, an emergency lockdown was introduced in London and the southeast of England on 20 December. Several countries announced UK travel bans.
