Rapota: The Union State's future will depend on new technologies

MINSK, 29 September (BelTA) – The future of the Belarus-Russia Union State will depend on the implementation of new technologies, State Secretary of the Union State Grigory Rapota said at a plenary session of the 7th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia on 29 September, BelTA has learned.

“The Union State needs to look to the future. We live in a rapidly changing world. The political balance of power is transforming. New technological waves are being developed. Today we are talking about the fifth technological revolution, 5G technologies, widespread digitalization, and artificial intelligence. Our future will depend on how effectively we, in the Union State, will react to these processes,” Grigory Rapota said.

According to him, the future joint projects of Belarus and Russia may include the construction of high-speed railroad, which will connect St. Petersburg and Minsk with Europe, the construction of highway Meridian, and the development of the Arctic.

The 7th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia is held via videoconferencing on 28-29 September. The plenary session focused on the Historical heritage of Great Victory as the basis to develop social, economic and spiritual ties between the peoples of Belarus and Russia. It is expected that agreements and contracts worth some $700-750 million will be signed at the forum.
