Polish Embassy in Minsk to open Book of Condolences for slain Gdansk mayor

MINSK, 18 January (BelTA) – The Embassy of Poland in Minsk will open the Book of Condolences for Gdansk Mayor Pawel Adamowicz, BelTA learned from the embassy.

The Book of Condolences will be available for signing on 21 January from 10.00 to 15.00.

As it was reported, 53-year-old Pawel Adamowicz died in hospital on 14 January one day after he was stabbed by a man who rushed on stage during an open-air charity. The assailant is a 27-year-old resident of Gdansk who was recently released from prison where he spent five years for bank robberies.

A memorial ceremony and the funeral of Pawel Adamowicz on 19 January will be observed as a national mourning day. Since 15 January, days of mourning have been observed in Gdansk, Sopot, Warsaw and some other Polish cities.
