MINSK, 30 December (BelTA) - The head of the 13th Belarusian Antarctic Expedition Aleksei Gaydashov sent greetings, on behalf of the exhibition, to the National Academy of Sciences and all Belarusians, BelTA learned from the press service of the National Academy of Sciences.
"We wish everyone good health, warmth and comfort, success and good luck in business. May we leave all problems behind and may 2021 bring us peace and harmony, love and well-being. Take care of your loved ones and yourself!" reads the message from Antarctica.
The 13th Belarusian Antarctic Expedition was given a ceremonial start at the National Academy of Sciences on 19 October 2020. This year the expedition to the ice continent will include 10 members. Of these, five have already visited Antarctica, the rest are newcomers. The members of the expedition will continue the construction of the Belarusian Antarctic Station Mount Vechernyaya and the scientific research in accordance with the Belarusian Antarctic program.
On 26-27 December, an aerial cargo operation was carried out to deliver the expedition's personnel and cargo from the research vessel The Akademik Treshnikov to the Belarusian Antarctic station Mount Vechernyaya. Eight helicopter flights were carried out from the ship to bring 10 Belarusian specialists and 19 tonnes of cargo to the station, including scientific and environmental equipment, transport and communications equipment, food, aviation fuel, spare parts, repair and consumables. The station has basic life support systems, vehicles and communications, a supply of fresh water. The personnel began to carry out scientific programs, are deploying remote monitoring systems of the Antarctic natural environment, installing technological and environmental equipment.
