MINSK, 16 November (BelTA) – The State Border Committee of Belarus has sent a request to the Polish side demanding an explanation as to why violence, special gear, ammunition, and vehicles had been used against refugees staying in Belarus' territory, BelTA learned from the spokesman of the State Border Committee of Belarus Anton Bychkovsky.
The official said: “Firing stun grenades at unarmed people on the Belarusian side represents a blatant violation of international norms, including the rights of asylum-seeking migrants. The incident may be interpreted as an attempt at direct aggression against Belarus.”
Situation at Belarusian-Polish border somewhat stabilized
Despite the certain stabilization of the border situation Polish law enforcement personnel periodically use water cannons against refugees at the border checkpoint and the nearby area. The refugees are trying to distance themselves, cover kids, and dry their clothes.
