PM on Ryanair incident: Belarus is ready to defend its interests in court

MINSK, 7 June (BelTA) – Belarus is ready to defend its interests in court, Belarus' Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko told the Belarus 1 TV channel commenting on the incident with the Ryanair flight, BelTA informs.

“At the very beginning, the aviation authorities of Belarus addressed all the parties involved with a request to provide objective control data. We have not received a single document on it yet. At the same time, all objective control data from Belarus was immediately sent through appropriate channels to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and a number of other European structures responsible for aviation safety,” Roman Golovchenko said.

He noted that Western politicians are demanding an immediate investigation into the situation with the Ryanair flight. “We also want this, but it does not depend on us. We spoke at the ICAO Council meeting, voiced our position, but ICAO has not launched an investigation yet. I was informed that a commission has not been put together yet,” the prime minister said.

“We are confident that we are right and we are ready to defend our interests in court. I believe we will be able to get a compensation for all the damage caused to us,” Roman Golovchenko said.
