MINSK, 2 February (BelTA) - Several dozen foreign guests are expected to attend the forthcoming 6th Belarusian People's Congress, Belarus Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko told the media on 2 February, BelTA has learned.
“I would like to emphasize quite an active participation of foreign guests. They have said that the event would be boycotted as foreign guests would be afraid of going to Belarus. They said that no one would send their representatives [to the Belarusian People's Congress]. The reality shows however how empty these statements were,” said the head of government.
According to him, the numbers are still being adjusted due to travel and other restrictions amid the coronavirus pandemic, but about 70-80 foreign guests who have already confirmed their participation. Some of them are going to speak at the meeting. They are representatives of Belarusian diasporas, representatives of foreign businesses, and public figures.
“The attempts to boycott the congress have failed,” Roman Golovchenko stressed.
Representatives of foreign embassies also expressed great interest in the event. “Although they posted fake news that the boycott would be a collective one. Now the overwhelming majority of the diplomatic representatives accredited in Belarus have confirmed their participation, which indicates a high interest in getting first-hand information,” the head of government said.
