Plans to set up, upgrade labs, STEM centers at Belarusian universities

MINSK, 27 January (BelTA) – Belarus plans to set up and upgrade laboratories and STEM centers at its universities, First Deputy Education Minister Irina Starovoitova told a press conference on 27 January, BelTA has learned.

“An investment project to modernize higher education in Belarus has been developed at the initiative of the Education Ministry in cooperation with the World Bank experts. It involves 18 higher education institutions. Among the most significant activities is the development and modernization of more than 120 educational laboratories, STEM centers, and equipment sharing centers to support practical aspects of student training,” said Irina Starovoitova.

Plans are also in place to design Generation 3+ educational standards, taking into account employers' demand for graduates with unique and universal professional competencies. There are also plans to create new specialties aimed at training specialists for the V and VI technological waves. The development of a national agency to ensure the quality of education is also part of the initiative.

The first deputy minister also said that Belarusian universities continue developing cooperation with the real sector of the economy. “This is facilitated, in particular, through an inter-sector task book developed by the ministry, in accordance with which the universities worked on more than 60 technological requests important for industrial enterprises in mechanical engineering, chemical industry, waste processing, metallurgy,” she said.
