Plans to redeploy some medics from regions to Minsk during 2nd European Games

MINSK, 13 June (BelTA) – The emergency medical aid service in Minsk will draw on human resources of the regions for the duration of the 2nd European Games Minsk 2019, BelTA learned from Belarusian Healthcare Minister Vladimir Karanik.

Preparations for the 2nd European Games Minsk 2019 are in the center of attention now. Vladimir Karanik stressed that the sport forum will in no way infringe upon rights of Belarusian citizens to prompt medical aid.

In particular, as far as emergency medical aid service is concerned, the workload is usually lower in summer because Minsk residents tend to stay out of the city. Some of the beds in hospitals are used less effectively and some of the beds stay empty. “We know what reserves we can tap into. We've tapped into reserves of other regions in order to secure the necessary redundancy,” the minister said. Emergency medical aid teams from major cities, which are not overworked right now, have been transferred to Minsk. Naturally, nobody touched the manpower available in small towns to avoid reducing the availability of medical aid.

Some conversations taking place in the blogosphere speculate that access of Minsk residents to hospitals and the emergency medical aid hospital will be reduced due to the games. Vladimir Karanik assured it will not happen. He noted that one of the departments of the emergency medical aid hospital had been redecorated recently.

In order to prevent tensions, medical care will be provided to athletes separately from other patients. However, athletes will be treated in regular wards where the staff speaks foreign languages.
