MINSK, 10 November (BelTA) – Another batch of COVID-19 vaccines produced by Sinopharm Corporation (Vero Cell) was sent to Belarus from Beijing on 10 November, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Embassy in the People's Republic of China.

“The cargo includes 500,000 doses provided by China as humanitarian aid, as well as one million doses purchased by Belarus. The cargo also includes more than 500,000 syringes to administer the vaccine,” the diplomatic mission informed.

Earlier, China had already donated 900,000 doses of Vero Cell vaccine to Belarus; one million doses were purchased by Belarus. Belarus and China are considering a higher level of cooperation in the field of vaccines and medicines against coronavirus infection.

In addition to that, a sculpture to Yanka Kupala made by world famous sculptor, Director of the National Art Museum of China Wu Weishan was sent by plane to Belarus. The bust will be installed in the Yanka Kupala Kindergarten - Secondary School in the urban village of Kopys, Orsha District, Vitebsk Oblast. The embassy noted that this is part of the program to mark the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Belarus and China, which will be observed on 20 January 2022. This matter was discussed on 9 November at the meeting of the cultural cooperation commission of the Belarus-China Intergovernmental Committee on Cooperation. By the way, a similar monument to Yanka Kupala made by Wu Weishan was unveiled at Beijing International Studies University in January 2020. This university runs the Center for Belarusian Studies where the Belarusian language is taught.

The diplomatic mission recalled that on 25 October 2021, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko signed a decree to award Wu Weishan the Medal of Francysk Skaryna for services to international cultural contacts.
