Over 25,000 youngsters take part in charity events this holiday season in Belarus

MINSK, 16 January (BelTA) - More than 25,000 pioneers and volunteers of the BRSM Kind Heart movement took part in the nationwide charity campaign for the elderly "From the bottom of our hearts", BelTA learned from Secretary of the BRSM Central Committee, Chairman of the Central Council of the Belarusian Republican Pioneer Organization Aleksandra Goncharova.

"We all loved the new charity project that teaches children and young people kindness and mercy. This was confirmed by the number of participants - 25,277 children, adolescents and young people. Our youth organizations alone held 2,648 good-hearted New Year and Christmas events: festive meetings and concerts for residents of the territorial social services centers, nursing care homes," Aleksandra Goncharova said. "Our guys made home visits to veterans and participants of the Great Patriotic War, veterans of labor, the Komsomol and Pioneer movements, single elderly citizens."

The idea of the new charity project was voiced by the head of state voiced at a charity event held as part of the Our Children campaign. It was held across the country from 3 to 14 January. The organizers were the Labor and Social Security Ministry, the Education Ministry together with the Belarusian BRSM youth union and the Belarusian Republican Pioneer Organization. The goal was to give care and attention to the older generation during the holidays, to involve schoolchildren and students in the effort to provide assistance and support to people of silver and gold age, and to develop the intergenerational format "from children to the elderly".
