Over 2,000 refugees in front of Polish fence at Belarusian border

MINSK, 8 November (BelTA) – The situation at the Belarusian-Polish border remains extremely intense, representatives of the State Border Committee of Belarus told BelTA.

According to the source, over 2,000 refugees, including a considerable number of women and children, are in front of the Polish fence at the border line. The foreigners say their final destination is the European Union where they want to appeal for refuge. They do not see the Republic of Belarus as a place they want to stay in.

The refugees have repeatedly tried to inform the Polish side that they had left their countries because their lives had been in danger. “Despite the absence of aggressive actions on the part of the refugees back then instead of attempting to understand the situation the Polish side deployed aerial units to provide psychological pressure. Apart from that, tear gas was used against the people seeking shelter,” the State Border Committee of Belarus noted. “In response to the unjustified use of special gear some of the refugees resorted to more decisive actions and started destroying the Polish fence.”
