Opinion: We need to warn the European community of the dangers of Nazism manifestations

MINSK, 21 March (BelTA) - It is necessary to send a signal to the European community about the dangers of Nazism manifestations, First Secretary of the BRSM Youth Union Aleksandr Lukyanov said during the open dialogue “Khatyn - a Sanctuary of National Memory held on 21 March to mark 2022 Year of Historical Memory, BelTA has learned.

Participants of the open dialogue at the national Youth House in Minsk offered a number of new patriotic projects to the youth organization. They include “Khatyn in Family Albums”, a project to perpetuate the memory of the victims of Khatyn, as well as the installation of a sign at the memorial complex as the center of the European genocide.

Aleksandr Lukyanov voiced the initiative of public associations to the international community. “Together with our largest public associations we have come to the understanding that we must once again send a signal to the European community and the entire international community about the danger of Nazism manifestations. Tomorrow during a commemorative event at Khatyn we will make a joint statement that the genocide that took place on the territory of our country 79 years ago must never be repeated. It must not be allowed to be revived in any form in the modern world,” he addressed the participants of the dialogue.

The open dialogue gave a start to the BRSM Youth Union initiative to set up a full-fledged museum on the territory of the memorial complex and declare it as the Belarusian Youth Construction. Such an initiative was proposed by First Secretary of BRSM Youth Union Aleksandr Lukyanov and approved by the head of state during his address to the Belarusian people and the parliament.

A unique exposition “Khatyn - a Sanctuary of National Memory” went on display at the National Youth House.

22 March 1943 became the last day for 149 Khatyn residents, including 75 children under the age of 16. Twenty-six houses disappeared in the flames.

In 1969, the Memorial Complex Khatyn was opened in the open air on the 54th km of the highway Minsk - Vitebsk in memory of the victims of fascism in Belarus. In 2004, on behalf of Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko the memorial complex was reconstructed and included in the State List of Historical and Cultural Heritage of Belarus.
