Opinion: Us vs. them tactic is meant to tear Belarus apart

MINSK, 5 August (BelTA) – Those who are pitting us vs. them are tearing the country apart, member of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Valery Voronetsky said during a discussion dedicated to the Belarusian president's annual address as part of the Expert Community joint project of BelTA and the Belarusian Institute of Strategic Research (BISR) on 5 August.

The president's address to the Belarusian people and the National Assembly included many important theses on the future of the country, Valery Voronetsky said, and listed three most important ones in his opinion.

“The crucial thesis is that those who are using us vs them tactic are tearing the country apart. This is unacceptable. I oppose it when someone takes the right to judge who is good and who is bad, establishes a monopoly on ideology, on the opinion. The president calls for a diversity of ideologies, worldviews, approaches, emphasizing that everything must serve the interests of the Belarusian people and the state,” the MP said.

“The Belarusian people will not give their country away to anyone. This is very important. This is our national house. We will fight for it. We will live here. No one is allowed to interfere with our affairs,” the MP said.

Another important thesis of the president is that the Belarusian language is a foundation of independence. “This applies to Belarusian culture, traditions. With no understanding of them, it is difficult to build the future,” the MP is confident.
