Opinion: Poland is treating refugees like Bereza Kartuska Prison inmates

MINSK, 17 November (BelTA) – Poland is treating refugees like Bereza Kartuska Prison inmates, expert with the Belaya Rus public association Piotr Petrovsky told BelTA.

“Human rights, this entire ideology are just a cover for promoting the interests of the collective West. This has become obvious by now. We see that human rights are interpreted differently in different countries. Had these refugees and their status fitted into the plans of Western countries, the West would have cared for their rights from the very first day. Today these refugees are not on the agenda of Western countries, so no one cares about refugees and their rights. Moreover, we see that Poland disregards, grossly violates not just human rights, but also the commitments the Polish government assumed as part of the EU. These are the Geneva Conventions and the Dublin Regulation,” the expert said.

Piotr Petrovsky drew attention to a very curious fact. “The EU, whose leadership is supposed to oversee the fulfillment of these commitments by Poland, simply turns a blind eye to this and covers up the violations committed by the Polish government. This way it shows that in certain cases the violation of international norms is even welcomed by the EU leadership when this violation does not run contrary to plans and geopolitical interests of Western countries. These are double, triple standards, and these refugees fell hostage to them. In fact, Poland is treating refugees like Bereza Kartuska Prison inmates,” he added.
